\u201cBaskenland\u2026 hm, klingt eigentlich ganz interessant, verbinde ich jedoch eher mit grasenden K\u00fchen und m\u00fctzentragenden \u00e4lteren Herren.\u201d Wenn ich nun an meine ersten Worte denke, nachdem meine Frau Ingrid eine Radreise durch das franz\u00f6sische Baskenland vorschlug, fasse ich mir heute nur mehr vor Lachen an den Bauch.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wir entschlossen uns schlie\u00dflich den langen Weg auf uns zu nehmen und im S\u00fcdwesten Frankreichs in unbekanntes Gebiet vorzuwagen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Das Nachbarland hatte ich schon vor 15 Jahren ins Herz geschlossen und seitdem vergeht kein Jahr, in dem nicht mindestens der kleine Zeh \u00fcber die Grenze gehoben wird.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nach mehrst\u00fcndiger Anfahrt die aufgrund gut ausgebauter Autobahnen und einem Etappenstopp in Zentralfrankreich\u00a0 in Frankreich kein Problem war, erreichten wir schliesslich Biarritz. Eine erfrischende Brise wehte uns gleich zur Begr\u00fc\u00dfung um die Nase und der Geruch nach salziger Meeresluft liess uns mit einem Schlag in unserem Urlaub ankommen. Nun konnte unsere gef\u00fchrte Radreise beginnen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Am n\u00e4chsten Abend begr\u00fc\u00dften uns Christiane und Philippe von FRANCE A VELO zum Aperitif und ersten Abendessen. Fruchter Ros\u00e9 wurde perfekt temperiert serviert und das himmlische 4-G\u00e4ngige Men\u00fc versetzte uns in andere Geschmackssph\u00e4ren. Wenn ich heute an dieses Festmahl denke, l\u00e4uft mir noch immer das Wasser im Mund Am n\u00e4chsten Morgen war es dann endlich soweit. Mit unseren Mitreisenden schwangen wir uns nach dem Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck auf unsere Drahtesel und folgten Christiane durch wundersch\u00f6ne Landschaften, die uns am ersten Tag entlang der Velodyssee, dem neu angelegten Eurovelo 6, f\u00fchrten. Ausgesprochen sch\u00f6n war, dass es sich beim Radweg nicht um eine schnurgerade Strecke handelte, sondern man sich durch den geschl\u00e4ngelten Weg auch hin und wieder sch\u00f6n in die Kurven legen konnten.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Das Meer bot uns ein atemberaubendes Naturschauspiel. Der aufbrausende Atlantik zeigte sich durch seinen Wellengang von seiner sch\u00f6nsten Seite. \u00dcberrascht von den aufsteigenden Klippen, konnte ich meinen Blick kaum mehr vom Meer wenden und musste mich konzentrieren, um nicht im feuchten Nass zu landen. Die kleinen mit Sand bedeckten Buchten, an denen der Radweg entlang kam,\u00a0 luden zu einem klein Sprung in Wasser ein. Beeindruckt haben uns auch die ehemaligen Adelspal\u00e4ste und Art Deco H\u00e4user, die sich immer wieder vor uns auft\u00fcrmten und den Glanz alter Zeiten verspr\u00fchten.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mittags wurden wir mit einem herrlichen Picknick, mit lokalen Spezialit\u00e4ten und k\u00f6stlichem Wein verw\u00f6hnt – ein franz\u00f6sischer Gaumenschmaus. Auf einem sehr gut ausgebauten Radweg erreichten wir nun die Hauptstadt des franz\u00f6sischen Baskenlandes, Bayonne. Nach Stadtf\u00fchrung und gem\u00fctlichem Stra\u00dfenbummeln ging\u2019s abends dann zur\u00fcck ins Hotel und nach einem langen intensiven Radtag konnte ich es kaum erwarten gleich in den Pool zu Auf einer Reise durch diese spannende Region durfte eine Stadtf\u00fchrung durch die K\u00f6nigin der baskischen St\u00e4dte, Biarritz, nat\u00fcrlich nicht fehlen. Geschichte, Anekdoten und typische Lebensweisen wurden uns hier auf lebendige Art und Weise vermittelt. Ein Ausgesprochen sch\u00f6ner Stadtkern, mit pittoresken Gassen und den edlen Pal\u00e4sten, lassen den f\u00fchrern, durch den Walfang erworbenen Reichtum aus fr\u00fcheren Zeiten erkennen.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wenn man schon so weit im S\u00fcdwesten ist, d\u00fcrfen neben dem Meer die ber\u00fchmt ber\u00fcchtigten Pyren\u00e4en nicht fehlen. \u201cPyren\u00e4en?!\u201d dachte ich, als mir das erste mal die Beschreibung in die H\u00e4nde fiel – \u201cDas ist doch was f\u00fcr Radprofis auf der Tour de France.\u201d Schnell wurden wir beruhigt, dass es sich hierbei nur um deren Ausl\u00e4ufe handelt. Ein Kinderspiel als sozusagen\u2026 In die Pedale treten mussten wir dann doch etwas, wurden aber mit einem herrlichen Naturschauspiel und spektakul\u00e4rem Bergpanorama belohnt. \u00a0 Nach 5 N\u00e4chten in unserem Hotel in Biarritz ging es mit dem Transfer nach Pau. Eine dynamische, junge Stadt, die sich vor allem durch ihre beeindruckende Burg und seine pittoresken Gassen auszeichnet. Auf einem Plateau gelegen bietet sie einen herrlichen Blick auf die Pyren\u00e4enkette, welche vor allem bei Sonnenuntergang f\u00fcr romantische Stimmung sorgte.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nicht nur mit Picknicks und Diners wurden wir verw\u00f6hnt, sondern auch mit zahlreichen Verkostungen. So gab es Wein-, K\u00e4se- und Schokoladenproben, an denen sich Augen und Gaumen erfreuen konnten. Als es durch das Jura\u00e7ongebiet ging, sahen wir auch die Weinberge, auf denen die Trauben wachsen, die wir seit fast einer Woche in fl\u00fcssiger Form zu uns nahmen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nat\u00fcrlich durfte eine Fahrt mit der ber\u00fchmten \u201cRhune\u201d Bahn nicht fehlen. Auf dem Gipfel angekommen bietete sich uns ein spektakul\u00e4rer 360\u00b0 Blick auf das Meer und die Pyren\u00e4en. Mein Blick f\u00e4llt auf die romantischen T\u00e4ler und als wir herumspringende Wildpferde \u00fcber die saftig gr\u00fcnen Weiden h\u00fcpfen sehen, traue ich meinen Augen kaum. Die baskische Architektur empfand ich als \u00e4u\u00dferst interessant. Weiss get\u00fcnchte H\u00e4user mit feuerroten T\u00fcrrahmen und Fensterl\u00e4den verspr\u00fchten einen ganz eigenen Charme. Dies kam vor allem in Espelette zum Vorschein. Vor lauter Staunen verga\u00df ich fast unsere Verk\u00f6stigung, in der mehrere Sorten Paprikapulver in den verschiedensten Formen vorgestellt wurden. Doch auch in Saint Jean de Luz schlug mein francophiles Herz h\u00f6her. Der einheitliche Stadtkern, der wundersch\u00f6ne Strand und die au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlichen Kirchen waren kaum zu toppen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Die Reise offenbarte sich f\u00fcr uns als absoluter Gl\u00fccksfall. Die Natur war atemberaubend, die Menschen herzlich, offen und sehr aufgeschlossen und das Essen einfach nur k\u00f6stlich. Milde Temperaturen vers\u00fc\u00dfen uns den Urlaub und der tolle Service durch Hotels und Reiseleitung, als auch die gut ausgebauten Strecken machten den Urlaub zu einem herrlichen und
