Day 1 Arrival in Würzburg
Your cycling holiday begins in the Franconian residence city of Würzburg. Great artists such as Balthasar Neumann, Tilman Riemenschneider and Tiepolo worked here. Enjoy the flair of the city, which is situated so charmingly between the vineyards on the Main riverbank, and get to know Franconian vitality in one of the wine taverns.
Day 2 Würzburg – Wertheim 45 km
You cycle through the Steinbachtal, following the course of the Aalbach. At Bettingen, you will then arrive at the river Main. Now there are only a few kilometres to Wertheim. The picturesque little town between Spessart and Odenwald lies at where the Tauber mouths into the Main. The lovely castle ruins are enthroned over the small crooked alleys of the old city. Enjoy the evening in the romantic atmosphere of the medieval little town.
Day 3 Wertheim – Bad Mergentheim 50 km
Today you leave the Main and cycle further in the Tauber valley. Here a pure nature experience is united with the art-historical testimonies of 1.000 year old history. You will soon arrive in Tauberbischofsheim. The Kurmainzische palace with its Türmers tower is an imposing testimony. Numerous monuments reflect the various eras. You now follow the Romantic Road to Bad Mergentheim.
Day 4 Bad Mergentheim– Rothenburg 55 km
The spa town of Bad Mergentheim is first on today’s programme. Afterwards you can visit the moated castle of Weikersheim. Travelling via Creglingen, where you will find the Marienaltar by Tilman Riemenschneider, you then cycle through the primal Tauber valley towards Rothenburg. Shortly before midnight, the Rothenburger night watchman will tell you tales about the medieval life of the city on his rounds.
Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, you can travel home on your own – or you can extend your stay in Rothenburg.
