Day 1 Podersdorf
Individual arrival to Podersdorf. Check-in, bike pick-up and travel documents handover.
Day 2 Lake Neusiedl cycle path 48 km
Along the cycle path you will find picturesque villages, rustic towns and slightly hilly landscapes until you finally arrive in Rust, the „Village of Storks“. Return to Podersdorf by ferry and enjoy the pleasantly warm rays of sunshine.
Day 3 Wine and Cultural cycle path 43 km
The wines from this region are world famous. As you drive through the extensive vineyards and rolling hills, you can enjoy the wonderful view of the lake. Halbturn Castle is well known and is the most important baroque building in Burgenland. You might see the colorful bee-eaters that breed in sandholes in summer.
Day 4 Lacken cycle path 54 km
The famous „Lacken” (small lakes) are definitely worth a visit. Most of them are less than 50 cm deep and partly composed of salt water, these „varnishes” are the reason for the diversity of flora in this region. You will pass wet meadows, reed fields and vineyards whose grapes are known worldwide for their high-quality wines. Today is also the perfect day for a detour to the St. Martins thermal baths – one of the most beautiful thermal baths in Austria.
Day 5 Sopron/Hungary 72 km
The ferry takes you to the southern town of the „festival town“ of Mörbisch. You continue cycling on the Hungarian side of the lake and reach Sopron, which is close to the border. Sopron is a city with rich historical heritage and many attractions. A special recommendation near the Austro-Hungarian border is the winemaker’s house „Raspi“ in the town of Fertorkos. The menu starts with lamb fillets and offers many different, exquisite specialties.
Day 6 Cherry-Blossom cycle path 51 km
The ferry takes you to the southern town of Mörbisch, known as the „Festival City“. You continue cycling on the Hungarian side of the lake and reach Sopron, which is close to the border. Sopron is a city with a rich historical heritage and many attractions. Start today’s stage by ferry to the other side of the lake. They are guided along vineyards and extensive cherry orchards. After a few short climbs on today’s tour, you will be rewarded with wonderful views over the Hungarian plain. We take the ferry back to Podersdorf.
Day 7 Festival circuit 54 km
The ferry takes you to the baroque city of Rust. Along the route you have the opportunity to take an exclusive look behind the scenes of the festival venues in Mörbisch am See and St. Margarethen. The impressive Esterházy Castle awaits you in the Haydn town of Eisenstadt. Culinary delights await you in the Taubenkobel in Schützen, in the Ruster Heurigen, in the local wine academy and in the castle wine shop in Eisenstadt. The route also offers a lively variety of inns and cozy wine bars.
Day 8 Podersdorf
Either departure well recovered or if you still have some more time, take another day to visit the capital city of Austria, Vienna (reachable within 1 hour by bus). We will be happy to help with your reservation.
