Characteristics of this journey/holiday

Day by day

Day 1 Arrival in Rennes

Arrival in Rennes. Discover the capital of Brittany by strolling through its streets and visiting the Mordelais gates, the former main entrance to the city, the Parliament of Brittany, the town hall, the half-timbered houses, and more. Enjoy your first Breton dinner, such as the unmissable “complete” galette.

Day 2 Rennes – Dinan 57 km

After breakfast, you leave Rennes and cycle through bucolic landscapes and along the Rance Canal to Dinan. Discover the picturesque charm of Dinan, one of Brittany’s most beautiful towns. Its imposing ramparts and medieval quarter bear witness to its importance since the Middle Ages.

Day 3 Dinan – Saint-Malo 32 km

Today’s stage takes you out of Dinan and along the Rance Canal with views of sailboats as you follow the towpath. Your route will take you through traditional fishing villages such as Saint-Suliac, where the 13th-century church tells the story of the fishermen through its stained-glass windows. The pirate city of Saint-Malo awaits you at the end of the day. You will be enchanted by what you discover there.

Day 4 Saint-Malo – Mont-Saint-Michel – Pontorson 54 km

After breakfast, you will set off for Mont-Saint-Michel. Your route takes you along the English Channel and offers magnificent landscapes to admire. A stop at the port of Cancale, a mecca for oyster farming, is a must to sample some oysters. What a wonderful sight this abbey is, known worldwide as the “Wonder of the West” and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From Mont-Saint-Michel, you will begin cycling along the La Régalante cycle route, which connects Mont-Michel to Nantes. Say your final farewells to the unforgettable silhouette of Mont-Saint-Michel and follow the cycle route inland through a landscape of polders. You will end your stage in Pontorson, an ancient medieval city.

Day 5 Pontorson – Fougères 44 km

A greenway and bucolic route await you on this stage. Discover Antrain and Maen Roch along the way, dotted with remarkable railway heritage. To conclude this stage, you will arrive in Fougères where you can visit its medieval fortress, one of the most important in Europe, which is well worth a long visit! Once you’ve parked your bikes, it’s easy to stroll through the medieval quarter or relax on the terrace of a café with a breathtaking view of the fortress. You’ll love this thousand-year-old city.

Day 6 Fougères – Vitré – Chateaubourg 48 km

This stage of the cycle route links two medieval towns that are emblematic of the historic region of the Marches de Bretagne: Fougères and Vitré. The greenway crosses the countryside and takes you past lakes such as Châtillon and Cantache, which are ideal picnic spots. Like the previous stage, this one is also marked by vestiges of the railway past, notably the old stations of La Selle-en-Luitré and Châtillon-en-Vendelais. A stop in Vitré with its majestic castle is a must: the iconic postcard image of your bike trip on the Régalante! Prosperous since the Middle Ages, here you will ride through the history of this merchant city with its rich heritage to discover. The route ends in Chateaubourg, where a former mill converted into a hotel, surrounded by 5 hectares of grounds, awaits you for the night.

Day 7 Chateaubourg – Rennes 24 km

This last stage allows you to cycle leisurely to Rennes and enjoy one last time all that Rennes has to offer, between strolling and picking up souvenirs to take back from the beautiful region of Brittany.
