Day 2 Alkmaar – Amsterdam 63 km
This section of the tour is also very varied. Zaanse Schans is a replica (inhabited!) Neighborhoods in the typical style of this area on the Zaan River in the 17th and 18th centuries: beautiful dark green wooden buildings, bridges and windmills. Day 3 Amsterdam – Volendam 35 km
Today you cycle along the Markermeer and through villages such as Durgerdam and Volendam, the beautiful stone houses in the characteristic center of the Catholic fishing village of Volendam seem to have been built without an organized road plan. „Overlooking the harbour, De Dijk attracts many tourists who browse the souvenir shops and take a break at a street cafe or restaurant.
Day 4 Volendam – Alkmaar 50 km
On this coast-to-coast cycle tour you cross the province of North Holland from east to west. You’ll enjoy varied landscapes, from the coast of the Markermeer to polders like Schermer and Beemster (World Heritage Site!), which were drained many centuries ago, to the flower fields (April/May) behind Heiloo/Alkmaar, cycle on the old „Sea dike of the former Zuiderzee“. Edam is a pretty, historic village. In its heyday, in the Golden Age of the 17th century, it was a town of
shipbuilders and traders, the well-preserved buildings you see in the centre date from this period. Take a stroll and enjoy the bridges, squares, gables, canals and other monuments, in summer you will love the traditional weekly cheese market on Wednesday
