Description

Prague welcomes you majestically at the beginning of your trip, a city full of history, rich in sights and full of joy of life. Dresden marks the end of your journey, the Zwinger, the Semperoper and the Frauenkirche are vying for your attention. In between, you cycle along the Vltava and Elbe, discover charmingly restored towns and idyllic villages and cross picturesque river landscapes. From the bastion you can enjoy a wide view of the Elbe valley, striking table mountains and an impressive natural backdrop. Maybe the route between Prague and Dresden will become your secret favorite?

Characteristics of this journey/holiday

Day by day

Day 1 Prague

In the evening welcome briefing and distribution of rental bikes (if booked) in Prague. An overnight stay in Prague.

Day 2 Prague

There are many sights to admire in the golden city. Visit Hradcany with the Royal Palace, walk across the famous Charles Bridge or enjoy Prague’s diverse nightlife. Overnight in Prague.

Day 3 Prague – Melnik 55 km

You leave Prague heading north and cross the green Stromovka Park. Soon you will follow the Vltava through quiet meadows, past Troy Castle and small villages. In Veltrusy, a baroque castle park invites you to take a break before crossing the river by ferry. Finally you reach Melnik, which lies above the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe rivers and attracts with its castles, old town and vineyards. Overnight in Melnik.

Day 4 Melnik – Leitmeritz 50 km

You cycle past Roudnice, the city of the Terezin fortress. Just a few kilometers further you reach the finish of today’s stage – Litomerice with its beautiful local architecture.

Day 5 Leitmeritz – Decin  50 km

After about 20 km you will reach the town of Usti nad Labem (Aussig). On the way you can admire the Schockenstein castle ruins on the right bank on a 100 m high rock. In the afternoon you will reach Decin (Czech Republic).

Day 6 Decin – Pirna 45 km

You cross the border into Germany and soon see the picturesque rocks of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The course of the Elbe takes you past the Königsstein Fortress. Visit the largest fortress and enjoy the enchanting view of the Elbe valley. Overnight stay in Pirna.

Day 7 Prina – Dresden  25 km

You cycle past Pillnitz Castle to Dresden. You pass the „Blue Wonder“ and the castles along the Elbe. The short route gives you time to visit Dresden’s impressive old town.

Day 8 Departure or extension

After breakfast it is time to leave again or you would like to extend your stay.

Additional informations

Route characteristics: Easy to moderate There are some inclines to overcome from Prague to Melnik, otherwise the route on the Elbe cycle path is mostly easy. Some paths are partly unpaved.
