Description

Kids love family bike rides! What could be more fun than cycling with parents and grandparents along the magnificent Danube cycle path? The short daily stages are easy for children to manage. All along the bike route, great adventures await you: castles, boats, mermaids and the fairytale world from Pöstlingberg to Linz. You can also stop off at the beaches of the Danube for a pleasant break.

Characteristics of this journey/holiday

Day by day

Day 1 Arrival in Passau

Come with your family for your cycling holiday along the Danube cycle path. Check-in, hand over your travel documents and you will receive your rental bikes in our bike center. Enjoy a walk through the beautiful old town of Passau. The ships at the pier delight both adults and children.

Day 2 Passau–Niederranna 15 km + Passau-Kasten boat trip

After breakfast enjoy the boat trip from Passau to Kasten, where your bike tour begins.  After a few kilometres you will see the mermaid Isa. We also recommend a visit to the water adventure world “Haus am Strom” in Engelhartszell.

Day 3 Niederranna –Obermühl 20 km

You will soon reach the world-famous „Schlögener Schlinge“, where the Danube made its way through the hard granite rock in an S-shaped loop thousands of years ago. Castles and ruins line the wooded hills and characterize the landscape. Family tip: Hike to the viewpoint of the „Schlögener Schlinge“.

Day 4 Obermühl–Aschach 20 km

As soon as you leave the Upper Danube Valley behind, the fertile Eferdinger Becken  spreads out before you.  Vegetable and fruit-growing areas are lined up along the bike path, and we recommend you try the savory „cucumber“ or delicious asparagus specialties. Family tip: The Schaunberg ruins revive the knightly era.

Day 5 Aschach–Linz 20 km + train journey Ottensheim – Linz

Cycle comfortably on the south side of the Danube cycle path to the power plant in Ottensheim, where you switch to the other side of the river. From Ottensheim take the train to Linz. Family tip: Visit the fairytale world on the Pöstlingberg in Linz.

Day 6 Departure or extension

Return by train from your bike tour to Passau (included).

Austria it is mandatory for children under 12 years to wear a helmet when on a bike.

Route characteristics: The cycling path is completely paved  from one end to the other, flat, almost  always directly along the riverbank and very  suitable for beginners and children.

How to get there ?

General information 

▪ All bike tours are unescorted. 

▪ The mileages and distances are approximations of the recommended routes. ▪ Please be prepared by packing all necessary items, for example, proper rain gear  (jacket and pants), sun hat, sunscreen and proper sport shoes. 

▪ The arrival to Passau is not included in the tour price and has to be arranged on  your own. 

▪ This cycling tour is not suitable for people with limited mobility. Individual requests  are in special cases possible (e.g. handicapped accessible room).

 

Rental bike disclaimer

If a traveller rents a bike, he is basically liable for damages and theft. When booking our  rental bike disclaimer, we assume liability so that in case of loss or damage to the  rental bike (when properly used and secured) no financial responsibility must be paid.  Excluded from this are only lost keys, batteries and chargers of e-bikes, as well as  damage due to intent or gross negligence.
